Stripe payout doesn’t match your bank deposit?

Compare the same payout, currency and time window before treating a difference as missing money. Start with the reports you already have.

This guide uses a synthetic example. It requires no signup, payment, account connection or financial-file upload.

Work through these five checks

  1. Identify the exact question.Keep sales activity, Stripe settlement and the bank deposit separate. Write down the payout ID, currency, reporting timezone, period and expected bank-arrival date. A sales total and a bank deposit can cover different activity.
  2. Try Stripe’s native reports first. For automatic payouts, the Payout reconciliation report groups the balance transactions that settle in each payout. If you use manual payouts, the Balance report may be the appropriate starting point. Instant payouts need a separate reconciliation against transaction history. If those reports explain the difference, you may not need a paid review.
  3. Match evidence, not just totals.Compare signed gross, fees, refunds and other documented adjustments. Match payout IDs to the supplied deposit lines, including the settlement tail. Check timing and later reversals. Do not assume every difference is a fee, reserve or loss.
  4. Keep unexplained amounts open.Label a hypothesis as a hypothesis until an original report or transfer record supports it. Never add an invented adjustment just to make a workbook balance.
  5. Describe the gap before sharing files. For an initial fit question, describe Stripe, the closed period, approximate row counts, available export columns and what remains unclear. Do not email customer records, bank or card numbers, passwords or full exports at this stage. Private files require an accepted scope and an agreed private transfer and processing plan.

SYNTHETIC WORKED EXAMPLE

An unexplained $50 is a question.

Assume all rows belong to the same settlement period, in USD, with no other adjustments.

Gross receipts
$1,000
Fees
-$30
Refunds
-$100
Expected net under these assumptions
$870
Observed payout
$820
Unexplained difference
$50

Timing, a withheld amount or another adjustment might explain the difference. This example establishes neither a loss nor recoverable money. Request the source evidence for each proposed explanation.

Still have an unresolved handoff?

Our $199 USD one-time Payout Exception Check, plus applicable tax, covers one business, Stripe, USD and one accepted closed period within the published row limits. We confirm file fit, scope, privacy, acceptance and delivery before payment. It is independent operations reporting support, not accounting assurance, tax advice or a recovery service.
